Team Charter Flight Schedule

Post by RingoCStarrQB »

Interesting the Packers are taking 2 planes to Chicago today. One to Midway and one to O'Hare.

Interesting. That 757 is big enough for the team. I see from the page linked Baltimore is going in a 747 from Baltimore to Pittsburgh. Talk about overkill for a 35 minute flight. But then Atlas is mainly a cargo carrier.......

just a guess, but I'd expect equipment to Midway, players and the rest of team to O'Hare :idn:

MIdway can handle a 757, but has only 1 runway that can, typically smaller planes go to midway, and bigger go to O'Hare, I flew to Midway several times, and always prop planes

.
I read an article about this...the logistics are kind of amazing

Teams like the Packers use 2 mid- size jets because the airlines are more willing to charter those planes than their lucrative jumbos.
NFL requires team planes to stay in the city while game is played so that jet is out of service for too many hours and not earning $$$.
Several of the major carriers just said "no thanks" to the NFL's business because the plane always comes into town empty and then sits around doing nothing for hours.

Some teams like the Pats bought their own plane, other teams are based in hub cities and so the airlines are more willing to work with them.
As far as plane size - every player gets either a 1st class seat or an open seat next to them , so the capacity of a team- chartered flight is much less than what an economy seating arrangement allows. On the equipment side, I read that 500 pairs of shoes is typical for 48 active players - so they are moving tons of equipment too. Its a traveling circus
