It was nice being on other side of the coin for once. San Fran played how we played a lot of earlier games. Messy, mistakes, penalties at bad times taking 3rd and 2 to 3rd and 7 etc and dropped passes.

Not saying we didn't play well, we did. Just that those mistakes against a good team get you stomped and we stomped them. It got close there around the halves in score, but the game was never really close on the field. That's what happens when you make mistakes against a good team and we're a good team.

Happy to see we cleaned up a lot of the presnap penalties and drive killers that plagued us earlier, but still have some room to improve.

Plus they committed a mortal sin in the NFL. You can't expect to win when you turn it over 3 times.

We didn't have our starting QB for 2+ games and still found a way to win. We didn't have our All Pro corner last night either but they couldn't take advantage of it.

Like I said earlier, this is the NFL. Nobody is gonna feel sorry for ya if have injuries.

Morning coffee (at 2PM) random thoughts:

- STs won their matchup 2nd week in a row. It was largely due to 49ers penalties, but for example Zane Anderson "earned" that penalty and sold the hold well. Returners were mistake free, we definitely won the penalty battle, McManus hit a 50+ yarder and Whelan punted excellently with a 48.8 average.

- I expected us to do well vs the pass, but it was surprising how well we defended the run. McCaffrey was effectively neutralized - 11 rushes for 31 yards. By far the best defensive effort on outside runs this season.

- Love has had games where he didn't deserve an INT, but got one anyway. This time he deserved at least one pick, but defenders dropped it. Overall solid game, which coulda looked better without the Watson drop.

- When X got signed, I thought he'd be impactful but that there's little chance he'd live up to the massive contract. More fool me. Worth it and more. Guty slam-dunking X, Jacobs and Willis has been massive.

- For a "finesse OL", they sure block well on inside runs.

This play encapsulates the entire theme for the defense yesterday: effort.

Keisean Nixon chases the play down from the opposite side of the field and is able to punch the ball out. That's him at the bottom of the screen guarding Deebo Samuel as the ball is snapped.

And who recovers the fumble? That's Karl Brooks, trailing the play from his DL position 25 yards downfield.

Can't say enough about this play.

I appreciate your positivity and glad you had a good time. The TV copy told a different story, though, and I doubt you would have been as impressed. Hard to argue with a 28-point win, but this team is still a juggernaut that just cannot get going with everything it has. The run game dominated for a quarter and a half, but then was more ineffective for the rest of the game... as was the offense, as a whole. Jordan still playing inefficient, got away with several close calls, and just seems to lack rhythm in the passing game. LaFleur did nothing to help that with a healthy lead. The defense, OTOH, was the bright spot. They gave up some plays, but made some big ones of their own.

This game was kind of the flip side to some of our recent struggles. Poor efficiency on 3rd down and in the Red Zone and an inability to generate pass rush or cause turnovers all went completely the other way in this one. Some (Bukowski leading the way) have argued our inefficiency on offense was partially luck driven. Well, yesterday, our efficiency being what it was would also have to be considered unsustainable. Ditto the turnovers.

Still a team that leaves me wanting more because I can see it all there. Will they ever put it all together? I guess we will see. Jordan went on a tear about this time last year. I would say three of his best games were on the road and indoors. The Packers have yet to play inside in 2024 but have Detroit and Minnesota coming up shortly. The Packers have also avoided night games since the opener. Thanksgiving starts a trek of 4 straight. Maybe the team will shine brighter in the lights. A lot of interesting things to watch for the rest of the season.

the niners may be down this year, and they may have had key injuries, but they arent a high school team, or the panthers, or the lions of old. We were never going to win 52-0. A 28 pt win is a good thing in the NFL.

Another thing I like about Love: He doesn't mind letting his RB be the star of the game. No automatic audibling to pass, just happy to go through with 42 runs and just 23 passes if that gets us a win.

I haven't been in the bowl for some 7-8 years now, but I say the crowd is MUCH better than it used to be. Stood the ENTIRE game as did everyone else and no one said a thing. Stadium was good and loud on defense too.

agree with practically everything, one phase or another of our team is a letdown every game, or even several parts, again I wish I had All-22 so I could see why Love isn't getting that ball out on schedule, or why our receivers are covered which would be the cause, I just don't know, but Love looks like a player in a second season slump, slow to process and even slower to pull the trigger too often, and all these throws into double coverage, opponents have film, more and more of those high risk passes will get picked off

our defense does it's best riding the pine and watching Jacobs dominate clock management I have to agree with Lupe and others when they say give that kid the ball, I've become a air Coryall passing supporter after having such great QBs these last 30 years, but Love too often isn't Rodgers or even Favre-esque, and a bell cow RB like Jacobs can carry a heavy load, I loved Aaron Jones, but Jacobs has proven to be a great replacement.

my fear is that we'll need more from Jacobs and better from Love to prevail against Detroit

I think there's only one team in the league that wouldn't have a similar post on their fan site, and that's the Detroit Lions. Maybe the Eagles now too.
