3.5 for Meyers...yeah I would probably bring him back. Maybe he is that bad?

Meh Myers tires have been kicked. He was truly awful. The organization tried to save face plenty of times by saying he was having his best yea for whatever but the entire league knew he was bad.

Awful like Billy Turner was awful for us. I'll take it for the right price!

I’m past Myers, too.
I’d rather start the next thing, whether it’s Jenkins at center or whatever, than hold onto what Myers might someday become.
I’d also be hesitant to bring a 4-yr starter back on a second contract and then expect him to be a good with riding the pine.

Any thoughts on CB Jeff Okudah? He’s out there floating in FA.
Former No.3 overall pick, didn’t live up to expectations, obviously. Hafley coached him at Ohio State, though, where he shined.
Worth a shot?

I’d be in.

Man the 2021 draft was brutal. Stokes, Myers, Amari Rodgers, Newman in the top 4 rounds. To be fair that entire NFL draft class was pretty horrendous outside of a handful of guys that became stars.
One of the weird ones where you actually felt good about it after their rookie seasons but then just nose dived after that.lake shark wrote: ↑12 Mar 2025 18:51Man the 2021 draft was brutal. Not sure a fair way to judge it, but scrolling through that first round, yikes.

Who would have thought the consensus 4th round player projected to be a FB didn’t pan out when taken in the 2nd round.

Yeah you can't really bring back your own high-round draft bust on a cheap second contract. There's a reason teams don't do that; it doesn't work. That's a guy you brought in telling him he's the future at the position you drafted him to play.
So it goes from constantly treating a guy like "we believe in you" for four years straight, then you offer them a contract that says "sorry, we DON'T believe in you anymore." Nobody will be happy to return where they know they failed to live up to expectations, and where the people don't believe in you.
So yeah I'd be happy with Myers on my team at 3.5M and no favoritism due to draft status, but the team that drafts the player high doesn't get to do that. We also can't play the "prove it"-deal angle which communicates at least some faith in living up to the lofty expectations because as an OL if he's a backup, he won't get to prove anything.

You might say "well isn't their second team saying the same by also not offering a big contract?" No, not really. They never set any expectation with the player in question, high or low, for the player to fail to live up. Any contract they offer says that they at some level do believe in you, but nobody is going to pay more than they have to, either, and you have to take what you can get.
The one exception was bringing back AJ Dillon because he has pretty extreme devotion to this org and the city, didn't get any good offers anywhere else so he just stayed where he's happy. And that was also kind of a "prove it"-deal, of sorts. Well now even he, the Mayor of Door County himself, is gone.
