Sure a deep dive on a QB, in a class we hoped to get one of the top receivers

Obviously ya have to do this just in case other priorities don't work out, this article though makes it sound premeditated :)

we love ear candy, bring on the rumors, that's all I've done for 2 weeks is read every bit of draft gossip I see, knowing full well almost none of it will come to pass, just like every other year since I joined this forum, u's guys have led me down this rabbit hole :rotf: :rotf:
I was mostly interested in how the Packers war room and process goes. The podcast went into a little more detail and even discussed Gutenbumst scouting playrs this draft but Silverstein was obviously not allowed to say any names.

Can't wait to listen.

Did it impact your opinion of Gutey, the team, the process, etc?

I just want to say I absolutely LOVE this OL class for the Packers thresholds. Last year, if I recall correctly, there were like 3-5 guys in the whole draft that hit everything (aside from the guys too out of reach for us at the top; and most of them didn't do all the testing anyway).

This year there are SO MANY guys that will go from like picks 20 through 120 who have the shuttle and 10-yard split and the right mix of not-too-tall, but not-too-short and enough arm length. I mean we could really stock up if we want to with mid-round picks.

Apropos of nothing, I am kind of big on the idea of Jalen Milroe to NYG. They have Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston at QB, so there is no need to play him this year, and Dabol was the guy who unlocked Josh Allen. You could really put on a show with him at QB and Nabers at WR.

I don’t think Dabol has the time to unlock Milroe. If they aren’t a playoff team this year they’re done. Given you have to deal with the Redskins and Eagles I think chances are he’s done.

I desperately want the Giants to trade for Richardson because that QB room would be unhinged and it’s Richardson’s best hope to get a year learning from Dabol.

I never know much about the draft, but I have usually had a decent success rate calling QBs and RBs, and I think that Texas QB Ewers and the RB Blue are better players than their projections indicate. I think Ewers' upside is a top 5 QB (depending of course on where he goes), whereas I don't really see that with the other guys beyond possibly some strong rookie years for the "instinct" QBs (i.e. QBs who can't do reads and just check down into a QB draw every play when their first read isn't open like Justin Fields).

I was told that Milroe is an incredible runner, but based on his situation, I would pass, because big name school QBs rarely do well (although the recent ones have done better so maybe that trend is going away).

I have been pretty disinterested in Savion Williams (TCU WR) for us, but now I'm thinking about it.... you put him in a full-time return specialist role on punts and kicks, and on offense have him focus on learning the vertical stuff, plus throw in a few gadget plays here and there? Dunno, maybe that could actually work with him.

Then again, I am still of the mind that we do not need a WR1, just a guy who can open things up deep downfield and bring an X-factor, plus some return ability would be nice with Nixon moving away from that. And there is a dire lack of those guys in this draft, so you kind of have to make the best of what's available.

Here's my final 2ish round mock draft WITH TRADES (too many trades)

I did this by hand (actually in an iNotes last night while trying to sleep/with ambien starting to set in) so if I missed anyone or doubled up or otherwise messed up, it wouldn't surprise me. I already caught/corrected double Landon Jacksons.

But overall I am VERY pleased with this.

If it fell like that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gute take Sanders. He at least should fleece the Browns more. Look you have no QB, everyone else is going to trade up with the Vikings to pick Sanders. Sounds like we need 33 and next years 1st.

He could be!

The buzz that he is the apple of their eye has been strong. But it also might mean they like him later. It's impossible to know whether this is going to be a QB desperation year or a QB patience year (like 2022 NFL draft) where Wilis and Rattler had HUGE buzz and went in the 3rd rounds.

Exactly. And I forgot about Penix last year too. He was probably a bigger surprise.

I’m trying my best to prepare myself for a useless NT pick in the first round. Completely expecting Grant or Tyeik Williams tonight. This is the same spawn of a regime that goes high at NT when they don’t have one.

I usually am pretty good at assessing QB's. Like you, I don't pay much attention to the draft. To me, S. Sanders is sure to disappoint.
Cowboy up.

The thing with Shadeur is I don’t think he has any traits. He doesn’t have a lot of velocity on his balls. I think his best attribute is he’s pretty accurate but it’s not exceptional. He’s fast but he’s not special there. His intangibles are probably his worst traits like leadership qualities and toughness.

All in all you have a pretty average QB prospect and guys like that go on day 2.

I will add to that that word is coming about about some poor interviews he has had with teams. As in, he has a &%$@ attitude. This raises concern about coachability, which is one of the most underrated attributes of a successful NFL player. Especially one that lacks in other areas, as he does.
Cowboy up.
