From Lambeau to Lombardi, Holmgren, McCarthy and LaFleur and from Starr to Favre, Rodgers and now Jordan Love we’re talking Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers football. This Packers Forum is the place to talk NFL football and everything Packers. So, pull up a keyboard, make yourself at home and let’s talk some Packers football.
How’s everyone feel about the team so far after the draft? I have done a deep drive all day on the first 4 picks. Luckily I had deep scouted the first 3 picks enough to know them. I also did some extensive work on Sorren and Williams so I just have a little work to do.
Overall I think this is a fine draft but it didn’t get us any difference makers. It’s more of the same. For a team that lacks game changers and field filters we got a lot more fine players but no one who is a blue chip.

Well that’s a fairly decent outcome considering there weren’t many blue chips in the draft anyways and we selected 23.
I like Golden.
I would not have gone with the linemen at two. I wanted Trey Amos the corner there.
The third round pick seems odd for potentially either a gadget guy or a project, but I got more into when gpg said he could be our Deebo. I love me some Deebo.
Idk about the player much but the 4th round guy was one of the coolest outcomes I’ve ever seen from the 4th on draft day.
Not knowing much about these guys, its hard for me to have an opinion yet. But overall, im good with this draft.
I would have liked more cb. But the question marks on most of the top guys were well documented. The Packers obviously weren't fans of some of them either.
For as good as the story and experience was with Sorrell, I hope he's a home run.
If Belton and Golden turn into solid starters or better, this will be a success.
I don’t necessarily have problems with these choices. My problem comes from what this says about previous year picks. This year’s picks certainly say a lot about our wr and OL. Is this going to continue to occur? Will we always have to bunch up on picking certain positions year after year because previous year picks aren’t good? This is not how you build a championship team.

I think our offense has the opportunity to improve substantially. Last January my assessment was we needed improvement at WR and Olilne to see the largest ROI. We honestly hit that very hard this offseason.
Matthew Golden could be a legit player. Incredible route runner. Incredible hands. And a great YAC guy. Also brings the SWAG. Only thing Golden lacks is the size but we didn't have that with our 2009 - 2012 WR crew.
I also think our Oline has the opportunity to see a huge jump which in my opinion was the number group that held the 2024 team from making that next leap. The reason we couldn't beat the Lions/Vikes/Eagles was because our Oline did not hold up. We are likely replacing our two largest weak spot - Walker and Meyer and also have an opportunity to improve over Rhyan.
As for defense, my largest thing in January was bolstering nickle back. We also may have doe that.
I mean we checked my boxes. Now they just have to perform. And Williams could be a very interesting wild card here. We have a TON of YAC guys.

I wouldn't get too concerned about that.
AGain we always knew at most we would resign ONE of Doubs or Watson so you naturally need to find that replacement. And certainly you aren't making franchise decisions based on a 3rd round pick. Williams isn't any answer to any long term roster decision. Williams is a dice role to give Matt the Deebo Samuel weapon we have always craved to have.

takes multiple drafts to build a OL, we were middle of the pack with 3rd down efficiency, and that's with having one of the most productive RB's, if ya can't move the chains you have to succeed with big chunk passing in order to score points,(once we lost our deep threat that option declined drastically) hense a pick like Belton as well as a pick like Savion Williams, and also first rounder Golden, all three should help with our short game offense, moving the chains, obviously a kid like Golden should help with both short and long ball.
we see second season slumps often, and almost as often we see them improve a lot a year later.
Totally random, but I'm really starting to dislike Christian Watson's dad.
Yeah, I unfollowed him on X months ago because he's got a ton of pro-son bias, which is understandable, but he's also an arrogant ass to anybody who questions his conclusions or opinions. He'll go attack mode in a heartbeat over the smallest things, too.

Haha yeah I got into it with him yesterday on Twitter.

soon we'll have to have pre draft visits with parents
I wasn't as high as others on golden but I like the kid and what he brings. I think he could be a field tilter. Speed with great hands and crisp route running
Belton pick shows we are over being just a pass pro OL. We are going for the bully type that beat you up and it's about time. Force teams to play heavy boxes and exploit them down field
The other picks are high end athletes that had college production. I can't complain about any of that!! joe alt said Oliver was the toughest guy to block against. He is also a different style player he didn't have.
They clearly have a vision for a direction they want to go, and they prioritized traits that would push them in that direction. That vastly narrows the available prospects. It limits the path to success. It reminds me of 2020 for so many reasons. They were looking for specific traits and specific players hit those and that can WORK very well. The patriots did it for years with Belichick--found guys who can do this narrow set of things and put them to work. It did not work for us in 2020. It left us reaching for guys who fill a role but not at great value.
So I'm not saying positive or negative. But there's a narrow path to success here. I'll watch it play out.
I really like that the "change-up at pass rush" came through. A lot of us have called for a different style and we got that. I really like that there is some speed and size at WR. I really like that we got a couple big athletic OL--though we'll have to see who develops.
There's plenty of potential here, but I think people who want to take a negative vision of what we added have room to tell that story, especially given the comparisons to 020 and how that draft turned out.
Said the same thing. This is a 2020 draft to me. I like what Golden offers but he’s a very good WR2 and you probably want him paired with someone a little better than him to be the WR1. Still a fine pick because the speed factor is worth the pick.
That Beltin pick was just straight up bad. No way around it. You took a 24 year old player who was consensus pick 91. When Gutenbumst has strayed far from consensus like that he usually blows it. Dillon, Stokes, Deguara, Hopper, Walker. There’s more but these players usually end up falling in line with their consensus.

I feel good about this draft, I like our ability to get enough out of it to help make us better in the long run.
It does leave wanting a little bit. I remember feeling like we kind of crushed it last year.
Obviously initial impressions of a draft mean almost nothing, because how good/bad it is in reality depends on all the stuff that comes next, but on feels alone, last year was more what to me a really good draft class felt like than this one.

How much are you willing to pay a RT? to me Belton is insurance against not over paying Tom to be a RT.
he may beat out Rhyan, to start this year at RG, but if we can't come to a contract agreement with Tom, could be our future RT
