Deguara done

Post by TheSkeptic »

For the season. Thought this deserved its own thread because I did not see it anywhere before today.

The Green Bay Packers will be without rookie tight end Josiah Deguara for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Coach Matt LaFleur revealed that Deguara suffered a “pretty bad” injury during the Packers’ win over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, and ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports the injury is a season-ending torn ACL.

Yeah it's a bummer; our most active rookie now done.

That said, he got the offseason and enough playing experience to make his rookie year valuable developmentally, and he should be back around the start of camp next year, assuming a fairly typical 9-month recovery (7 is decently common, 11 is decently common, but middle ground is good to shoot for). So while it bites this year, he's a rookie TE and we have other bodies, and it shouldn't derail his development and career with us.

Between Lewis's blocking and Tonyan's receiving, we can quite easily live without him. In fact, Jace looked pretty good as a blocker last year.

With that being said, this still sucks. He was a guy who I think could have pushed for more playing time (after seeing a handful of snaps on Week 1) and had intriguing versatility. It would have been exciting to see his progression. We will have to wait a year to see it... :(

Deguara was our best blocker coming out of the backfield. Lovett kind of sucks

To be fair to Lovett, he is like 220-230ish pounds, not typical FB or TE bulk.

He's an undersized, versatile move piece, so the H-back/FB designation fits. But he's not a really clean fit in any role, hence his being available to us and able to stay on the PS without getting scooped up the first couple of weeks.
