Percent of vote the winner got will be in parenthesis, position change vs. 2019 will be in brackets.
Here's how this works:
Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll.
Simply voting is not enough!
Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 10 guys, a new player is added to the list each day).
Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

I'm staying with Kamal Martin. ILB #2 is the only starter not up yet.
I'll add another batch tomorrow, probably the rest of the draft picks. Let me know if there is anyone in particular you'd like to see that isn't up there yet.

This is tough.
It's still POSSIBLE that MVS winds up our #2 or #3 WR at points throughout the year.
It's LIKELY that either Burks, Martin, or Greene will play a TON of snaps as the #2 ILB/hybrid nickel defender, but not necessarily likely that it will be any individual of the three.

This position can't keep sliding to the side though because of uncertainty. We're talking 600-800 starting snaps and most ST snaps.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020 09:00It's LIKELY that either Burks, Martin, or Greene will play a TON of snaps as the #2 ILB/hybrid nickel defender, but not necessarily likely that it will be any individual of the three.

I agree that it can't! I just don't know which horse to back. I think I lean toward Raven Greene, but the last time I tried to vote for him, NCF really effectively talked me off of him and it leaves me torn.Waldo wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020 09:23This position can't keep sliding to the side though because of uncertainty. I think Martin is the least likely of the 3 to make an impact. Rookie LB's can come in and make an impact right away, but they are generally not 5th-rounders. I think Greene and Burks are better bets for first crack at reps.

Just pointed out that he has only played four games in his career on defense. But, that is the leader in the clubhouse between Burks and Martin.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020 09:29I think I lean toward Raven Greene, but the last time I tried to vote for him, NCF really effectively talked me off of him and it leaves me torn.

Yeah, I also feel pretty down on rookie impacts for this team, if it weren't so wide open.
I mean, even if Greene gets the hybrid safety snaps that, say, Campbell got down the stretch lats year... we still have the BJ Goodson snaps. Are those going to Martin? Bolton even?
After Campbell returned from the PUP list, weeks 10-16, he got basically 25-45% of the defensive snaps per game.
In the same games, Goodson consistently got 25% of the snaps.
We may be combining those two roles of a hybrid LB/S and a ILB2 into a bigger perceived role than is realistic. Clearly, the hybrid S plays for more passing game impact and the ILB2 played for more running game impact. If Martin takes the BJ Goodson role and Greene gets the Campbell role, we're looking at 2 guys playing about 250-300 snaps apiece over the course of a healthy season.
again why do you and others say ILB's come in and do well as rookies, this is absolutely not true except as 2 dn run stuffers, sure years ago thats about all a ILB was asked to do in a 30 front scheme however that is far from the conditions these days in a pass first league.
any of these 3 of Martin (eventually this year) Burks and Green can play the run, only Green though has sown the ability (cod) and reaction time to cover the pass, this changes the whole land scape about who is first in line to get the most snaps, Green showed enough in 2 games that imo it's his job to lose.
why anyone would think zone coverage schemes are easy to grasp just baffles me, only a few ILB's each year win starting jobs, and they are normally picked i n the first couple rounds, and it's even rare for them to do well year one, it's all about the gray matter, ILB is most always a zone coverage position, and zone pass coverage requires more thinking, and diffeent responsibility's depending on several variables, anyone that thinks that comes easy at the NFL level just hasn't been paying attention, the guys that can do that as a rookie go in the top 10 picks in the draft.
seriously I have a half doz players listed that could easily deserve this vote.
what about that kid Ervin, he showed more in a couple games (just like Green) then Burks has shown in 2 years, same with MVS and EQSB even with ten times the snaps.

MVS time.
Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
I pointed out that LB's can have an impact from Day 1 and then immediately made the case against Martin. You, in turn, came in to tell me I am wrong and then made the case for him... Psst... if Martin is seeing reps in 2020, its going to be as a 2 dn run stuffer. Thank you for making my point for me.Yoop wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020 10:24again why do you and others say ILB's come in and do well as rookies, this is absolutely not true except as 2 dn run stuffers, sure years ago thats about all a ILB was asked to do in a 30 front scheme however that is far from the conditions these days in a pass first league.

I am going for Raven Greene.
The 3rd safety likely has a slightly bigger role in our D than the 2nd ILB, and Greene has less competition for that role than any LB has for ILB2.
As much as I like Vernon Scott's prospects, I'll go experience over late-round rookie. And as much as I like Kamal Martin's prospects (which is a tick less), I'm not sure who of Martin, Burks, Bolton, or even Summers if he figures out how to wrap up, will win playing time.
Soon I'll start debating between Keke and Lancaster for the bigger role in the DL rotation....
...and Kadar Hollman as CB4, given the number of Ds we play, is bound to get some time this year, barring unrealistic health expectations.

come on, whats with this getting all butt hurt stuff simply because I pointed that out, and you didn't exactly say (mostly as a run stopper), I can't read that in your comment, my original impression was that you where baiting me for a comment because you know that drives me mad, so I commented, there was no malicious intent on my part at all, I would have responded as I did if any other member had said what you did.NCF wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020 12:17I pointed out that LB's can have an impact from Day 1 and then immediately made the case against Martin. Went with MVS, I think it is his time. He will be on the field a lot, and like I mentioned in a previous post, I expect him to get better after his sophomore slump.

Yoop, I really, really don't care. It was you that jumped down my throat. You hadn't even posted in this thread, yet. So for me to "bait" you... I guess you think I have WAY too much time on my hands.Yoop wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020 13:23come on, whats with this getting all butt hurt stuff simply because I pointed that out, and you didn't exactly say (mostly as a run stopper), I can't read that in your comment, my original impression was that you where baiting me for a comment because you know that drives me mad, so I commented, there was no malicious intent on my part at all, I would have responded as I did if any other member had said what you did.NCF wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020 12:17I pointed out that LB's can have an impact from Day 1 and then immediately made the case against Martin. He will come off the board in the next 3-4 for me. You want to talk about potential? Look at this cat!

At this point, it's like throwing darts. I went Keke. I think he could take a big jump this year, but I totally understand the MVS love. He's got so much potential.

I went with Lancaster. IMO the 3rd Dlineman in a 3-4 is more valuable than the 5th WR in a 2-TE base offense.
I could see choosing our rookie RG but it is only 50% that he will take Turner's job. I could see our rookie hybrid FB/TE but he is an unknown as is the scheme. I could see Tonyan also, he has great measurables. I can see taking the probable slot CB but which one? I cannot see choosing a WR that may not even make the team if he has not learned to track the ball and not drop a sure TD.
