Jordan Love is 20. He is going to sit behind Rodgers for a few years and hopefully do exactly what Rodgers did at that 26th spot.
Yeah, but we're talking apples and oranges. It was very evident that we weren't going to get it done with Favre, his playing style, direction of team. Rodgers was essentially s #1 pick that fell. This kid didn't fall, we even traded up.

We were in the NFC championship game last year....again. You go all in and get our biggest needs, which was WR or ILB. You have to throw the chips in. Gute went for future here.

Why on Earth extend Rodgers and then restructure his contract too?

31.5 million in dead money if we try to move him after this year.

17.2 after 2022 season.

Love has no chance to play till 2023.

Aaron Rodgers contract. No guaranteed money after 2020, so that's...interesting.

We can't $%@# pay him for 2 years! Rodgers is untradeable for 2 years! This pick does not help us at all for 2 years...
reminds of someone else we picked in the top 20 under Gutey.
Absolutely stupid comparison. Makes zero sense, just like this pick.
Not that stupid. A team that has multiple immediate needs two years in a row has used their first pick in the nfl draft to pick someone who wont contribute.

I like the pick. Needed an ILB more, clearly, but Rodgers hasn't been good and if we want to win, he needs to play better than he has, especially in the playoffs against tough defenses.

This either lights a fire under him (which is needed), or it doesn't and then we move on. Time to &%$@ or get off the pot.

Probably because they didn't think a QB for the future would be in reach in this draft?

He's not ready to play, anyway. Clean up some of his game... this is clearly a pick for 5-10 years from now vs. 1-2 years from now.

So I can put this here in advance:

Here's what I SUPPORT drafting tonight:
Here's what I'm prepared to talk myself into being ok with tonight:
    • QB
Here's what I unapologetically will oppose tonight until proven otherwise:
    • trade up for any position outside of WR, ILB, OT
I could always talk myself into a QB in round one. Especially because I love the depth of this draft.

I could talk myself into a trade up if it helped us at a need position right away?.

But a trade up for a non-need position is very tough for me to forgive and to swallow. Gonna have to nail it tomorrow with the 2nd and 3rd round

Gute obviously could not pass him up. If you think you got a franchise QB I guess you take him. Not a fan of the pick, but I like what I know of Love.

The problem is he likely would have been after this round.

Like I said, it was time for us to get whatever we needed to put this roster over the top. It's now or never with Rodgers. And we get his replacement.

Nah I think in terms of being evident that it's not going to happen, us with Rodgers now are about as far away as we were with Favre around the same time. I don't think it was evident then, and I don't think it's evident now. Both QBs clearly got close late in their careers, and Favre even got closer than Rodgers so far has. Both of them turned into total divas who no longer were playing all that much above average.

Rodgers obviously can turn it around, whereas Favre's story is locked in, but I don't want to kid myself that Rodgers has been anything more than average the last couple of years.

So we have to decide to pick up his 5th year option before he should ever start a game?

Unless he outright beats out Aaron for snaps, because we aren't ditching Aarons contract for 2 year minimum, probably 3.

This is a deep WR class so perhaps they felt they could get a WR in the second round?

Trading up feels weird, but seriously... it's a 5th... who gives a &%$@. Its nothing. Literally (figuratively), nothing.

So our options in 2 years are either get rid of Aaron and take on 17.5 million in dead money, OR keep Aaron again and have to decide to pick up Love's 5th year option without ever see him playing a down.

Not like we moved up a top QB prospect. Peter King didnt even think Love would go in Round one. Yet we shoot rodgers the bird, give up an additional 4th? for him, and dont fill any massive holes on the team on night one. Sweet.

There is an "easy" out in 2 years. Jordan Love is starting for the Packers after 2 more seasons of Rodgers, maybe 3. Like it or not. It can be done after 2 years, it doesn't have to be 5.

It's a 4th. But yes, your point remains to an extent. It is The Pick that all my favorite Day 3 guys fit into as I mentioned earlier.
