Shoulders must be hurting twisting them around patting yourself on the back like that.

So serious question. Who would be good hires for the Vikings and the Bears? And don't worry, I'm sure whoever you pick won't be their pick.
I mean honestly? Flores is the best HC on the market, right? I would have to re-evaluate things, and if you're looking for an offensive hire, I need to really re-evaluate things. I'm sure y'all noticed in my MLF post, I also expressed disappointment for having missed out on Nagy and Pederson, which are takes that did not hold up well. Haha

As to the twisted shoulders, yup. I have to say, I think that most people, if they floated a HC candidate name before anyone was talking about the guy, then went to the table defending that choice, and then months later their favorite team hired that guy; and three years later he has the best 3-season coaching record to start a career of all time... yeah, they'd be pretty pleased with themselves. I'm proud of myself for only bringing it up once or twice a year, honestly.

But I thought NFL viewership was in a death spiral?! :hide:
25 Million tuned in to watch Love play the Chiefs.
I really do want to see more details and play with the data. The author says that the Cowboys got a lot of the most-watched games, and I know they have tons and tons of fans, but I also have to wonder if that isn't putting the cart before the horse. The Cowboys have the most-watched games because they have the most prime-time, not they have the most prime-time because they're the most watched. Take the Lions-Bears example and it shows that time slot may matter more than team

I loved it, LaFleur was my favorite choice of our I believe 8 interviewees.

I'll try not to pat myself on the back too hard, but I actually don't remember much of a bad reaction around here (or packersnews.net)
everyone was so fed up with McCarthy we would have welcomed Joe Judge

seemed most members wanted someone from the Shanahan coaching tree, and that guy from NE was a popular choice to till we all dug into him deeper, Lafluer has been better then I think anyone expected, his humility makes him easy to like, and his knowledge imo is respected from everyone top down.

he should be COY but now it seems the guy that took over for Gruden in Vegas is the leading candidate now, whatever, we couldn't ask for a better replacement for McCarthy then Matt Lafluer.

Actually my recollection was that Josh McDaniels (the guy from NE) was the board favorite, not the Shanahan coaching tree. And he remained the board favorite, despite digging deeper.

I have always had mixed feelings about McDaniels. His offenses have been good with Tom Brady. He only 75% committed to Tebow when he committed to Tebow (for instance the Ravens 100% committed to Lamar and changed their whole offense and backup QBs, while McDaniels just added in some things for Tebow). His change of heart leavign the Colts at the alter was crummy.

But this year he's doing well with a rookie QB and crappy weapons, so maybe he's redeemed? I dunno.

Anyway, McDaniels, if I recall, was the most popular by far around here.

I will say this. Out of all the people who make statements about players and coaches, not only here but other boards, yours are the most accurate. So enjoy that back pat. :aok:

Packers getting a ton of high end guys back for the playoffs. Steelers getting JuJu. Cardinals getting Watt. I'm sure there are others. Why the hell did it take the NFL so long to change the IR rules? This is good for the game.

I liked McDaniels mostly because I like NE's short wco offense with all the mis direction and up tempo schemes, but I too didn't like the snubbing he gave the Colts, and some of his smart aleck press comments over the years, it came across to me as arrogant.

mostly I wanted change, I had been fed up with Mike the coach (not the person) for a few years, and I always felt Rodgers was too, now obviously both liked each others as friends, but as you just alluded to With McDaniels and Tebow, McCarthy was doing Aaron NO favors sticking to those iso verticals, doing the samo samo year after year breeds complacency, that had grown stale and Rotten since 017 or even sooner.

I think I liked Lafluer just about right off, some say he looked nervous in his first press meeting, possibly true, but his humility and self confidence was peeking out at us even back then, players are drawn to that, I know I was.

you do a ton of player and coach investigating, I rely on you and others for the info I'am just to tired to dig up, thanks :aok:

Titans getting Derrick Henry! Maybe the biggest one.

I think I wanted Jim Caldwell, who I think is criminally underrated (I also think he is better than Flores, if we're talking about the current market).

But beyond that, I think I remember being sort of neutral on MLF. I know I expected him as sort of the most likely to be HC (and I want to say many here expected him as well). I remember noting his parallels to McCarthy in being an offensive coordinator for a bad offense but having a history of success with QBs and supposedly being an offensive innovator (which MM was when hired). I remember thinking he looked like a guy who, although I didn't know whether he would be good or not, was definitely smart, because of his physiognomy.

Had zero idea how good he would be. Was really happy after that first game against the Bears in 2019 because it meant that we wouldn't suck.

I was wasn't real high on LaFleur, but didn't hate the idea of him as coach either. I just didn't (and still don't completely) understand why Sean McVay had his own coaching tree when he hasn't won anything. If we win the Super Bowl this year, would it mark the first time in history that one of a coach's "disciples" won the big game before he did?

What I didn't expect from MLF was how good of a people person he was. It really seems like the players love playing for him and for the most part stay pretty disciplined under him. He for sure seems to have mastered the balance between a players coach and the accountability aspect of the job.

MLF was on my radar very early on as a potential HC candidate, someone who I was interested in, never really "lost" interest in him later but I ended up becoming more interested in a few other guys.

I ended up being all-in on McDaniels. I feel like there was one other guy I was also really interested in but can't remember who. But McDaniels was a guy who I figured would have no real learning curve, which ofc is key because we are/were in a Championship window and time was of the essence. And frankly, I've been a fan of the Pats O for a while. There's an elegant simplicity to it; they just take what the D gives them. D is playing the pass? Run the ball. D is playing the run? Go to the air.

MLF's hire ended up kinda taking me by surprise because other than us interviewing him (as we did many other candidates), there was nothing out there indicating he was a finalist... which tends to be a giveaway in and of itself with this 'org, but yeah.

In truth, I was just happy to have a head coach that would bring our offensive scheme into the modern-day.

5 out of 6 Home teams win in WC weekend. We have to go back to 2016 to find where more than half the home teams won. All WC games in 2016 were blowouts. 4 of 6 this season were blowouts.
