the cecil Isbell story is hardly known by football fans, he didn't get the glamour, he gave the team the middle finger as Rodgers is doing, but Cecil did it right,, but both where/are the best of there era.

did you even let the context of the reason he quit sink in, or the era he played in when players couldn't support themselves just playing football, or that his end would come as soon as Lambeau as Guty just did replace him, this is a fend for yourself world because the people in charge are me first people too, , Curly demonstrated that years ago when he tried to steal the team from the town, and Guty did it drafting his own QB prior to decline of the one he inherited.salmar80 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2021 14:43WAIT WHAT!!!????Yoop wrote: ↑05 Jun 2021 14:01Why Aaron Rodgers' role model should be another Packer quarterback, Cecil Isbell.

Do you REALLY think Cecil did it right?
THERE ARE WAY MORE PLAYERS ON A TEAM THAN JUST THE QB AND HIS PERSONAL FRIENDS!!!!!!! Where's the consideration for the rest of 'em!?
Cecil $%@# all the rest of the players over. Just like AR would do if he quit the town now for his personal gain. And blame it all on the management, when it's really his choice.
Shameful. Just a shame.
I can't believe you'd ever go this direction, yoop.
PS. There's an implication that Bill Belichick's model was wrong. Count the rings.
Me, either. Is the AR 3000 a spin off of the Turbo Grafx?
We cannot possibly be equating those two things, can we?
no I suppose not to the same degree, (a little perhaps) but I still stand fast with Rodgers doesn't owe us a damn thing, if he decides to retire, as Isbil did, thats his right, and this has nothing to do with loyalty to his team mates, it's about loyalty to oneself, specially concerning such a small part as a football career, like Isbil Rodgers saw the future once Guty took Love, he would be replaced with a cheaper QB prior to end of contract, unlike Isbil who just said screw you and quit, Rodgers is pissing a hissy fit, my point with Isbil did it right, and as the article pointed out was Isbil didn't bother to pitch a fit, just quit.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that Isbell was able to leave because he could make much more money being a college assistant coach than an NFL player.Yoop wrote: ↑05 Jun 2021 14:01Why Aaron Rodgers' role model should be another Packer quarterback, Cecil Isbell.

who knows, I couldn't find that info, it's probable though, and Cecil coached for many years, even as a assistant to Lambeau when he coached the Cardinals.Crazylegs Starks wrote: ↑06 Jun 2021 11:47Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that Isbell was able to leave because he could make much more money being a college assistant coach than an NFL player.Yoop wrote: ↑05 Jun 2021 14:01Why Aaron Rodgers' role model should be another Packer quarterback, Cecil Isbell.
