Murphy's #1 job is to make sure that the franchise is in a good spot financially, and success on the football field is a big portion of that. Gotta think big picture. The NFCCG losses are not due to Murphy screwing up a personnel or coaching decision. The heartbreak that comes with those losses resulted in huge revenue gains as well as confidence in the product that is the Green Bay Packers, even if they didn't bring home the Lombardi Trophy. The fact that we've been in the picture every year is a huge testament to the health of the franchise.

i dont even think Murphy did some awful job, just dont see how one could pretend hes not involved in football matters. Hes involved in everything.
being involved with everything doesn't mean he runs the freaking draft.
Just for future reference, when i complain about someone...I dont usually lead with "I dont think ______ did an awful job"

first it's young Guty, then you accuse us of pretending Murphy isn't involved, and that Gute had to get permission to draft Love, these are your opinions that I disagreed with.

sorry if I offended, but I'am tired of hearing all the complaining

I've kind of liked Murphy, in hindsight, I frankly think he's done an amazing job.

Isn't really his job to 'win' superbowls, that obviously helps with revenue, popularity, etc. etc. etc. But a nearly perpetual playoff time during his tender, impressive no matter who the QB is.

But this franchise is rock solid, secured several nice additions to Lambeau ensuring there is no threat of any kind of schnenanigans in the foreseeable future.

Very nicely developed the land around Lambeau, they had to buy a ton of land to do all their stuff, it has been a substantial improvement. I gotta say I was always leery of the sledding hill, but that thing is pretty cool, summer and winter, and the ice skating below is always so packed we've never gone, like 30 minute waiting lines just to get tickets. That whole area is just very cool to be honest.

No idea how realistic it really is, if actually possible or not, but I have really liked to see him elbow his way into having the draft here. I think that would be his crowning achievement, because it honestly really should not be in little Green Bay in late April/early May, lol

Then i suggest bark at the people who are complaining about Murphy. I think he’s done well overall.

you just finished a spiel that Guty HAD to get permission from Murphy to trade up and draft Love, so that tends to insinuate that Murphy is over stepping his job parameters :idn: right? you even said I was ludicrous for thinking Gute didn't ask Mark if it would be alright, urrrrrr lol

you are right though, I should have howled from the rafters at Ringo, that was border line rebelliousness for certain, lol, every GM we've ever had lost a bunch of PO games, the only one that didn't had a doz HOF players on the team.

I don't know what to think of Realist comments on this topic, cept they seem to lack reality, or at least about Murphy being a control freak, if anything imo he should have taken control sooner, even so, that was a tough assignment, both Ted and MIke where adored by most fans and had a run of success few others have had, if NFCC and Super bowls are your measure for success your discounting just how hard it is to get there.

We all wanted to win more NFCCG or Super bowls, we have felt great disappointment after several of those losses, but that doesn't mean this team hasn't given us a ton of exciting wins and been knocking at the door step, and dominating this division for most of the last 30 years.

is it better to be very good for a long time, or just do what we've now done for 2 years, sell out to the point of real cap hell? which we know is happening because of the age of Rodgers, but it's probable when that ends we'll become more conservative again with our contracts and spending, or maybe we'll resort to L A Rams mentality, and trade all our picks for vets, they just won a SB, can they ride it to more, or will it only last this batch of up graded vets contracts ( couple years), be interesting to watch that play out.

I don't know why these quotes are not separating

Murphy hired Lafleur.
Lafleur reports to Murphy.

Thats being involved in the football side.

Further..if you think young Gutey traded up for Jordan Love without Murphys guidance or at minimal, blessing...well, i think thats ludicrous.
Ur on an island here NCF. Murphy no doubt needed to go. He is a control freak IMO.
He aint going no where for 3 years and only then because we have a age rule for exec's, and you should be singing his praises because he did step in and exert some control, this ship was spiraling down the crapper when he said enough is enough.
3 years? This thread sucks. Big Dog and Murph go out at the same time. Hofers.

I said I believe Murphy is involved in almost every facet of the packers org. I also said I don’t think young gutey drafted Love without Murphy’s approval.

I did not say that was a bad thing. I did not say he was over stepping his boundaries. I said it very matter of factly.

Whether Murphy’s involvement in everything is a good or bad thing is based on results...of which I find him to have done a satisfactory job.

I think Murphy has done a great job. All the pieces are there. Somehow the players and coaches have to close it out. I think the Packers were a better team than both the Buccaneers and 49ers. Murphy has more than done his part.

Also, I don’t think he has overdone the political correctness bullcrap. Yes, it is part of the corp execs life in this day and age, but I thought he has handled it delicately and decently.

I hope the Packers can pull out a SB win while he is still president.

Well put.

And even in our recent all-in phase, our GM has never been hampered by a lack of cash to throw at a player. The team finances have been able to handle some historically huge signing bonuses. No player has complained about the facilities nor about Lambeau Field. The stadium has been maintained well and expanded with good taste.

A recent Yoop post excerpt:

"we all complain about this, that, or the other, but that is superficial crap that all fans complain about from every team, but we Packer fans don't have much to complain about when it comes to the win/lost record the last 30 years, and for those complaining about not winning enough Super Bowls, ya aught to be thankful ya weren't born and raised in Cleveland, quit the bitching you spoiled rotten ingrates" :rotf:

You don't live in Cleveland ............. :rotf:

It kind of almost seemed inevitable at one point, but with host cities booming The Draft to even higher popularity, it know seems like a long shot. I agree, I think this would be a crowning achievement if he could secure this, one time, for GB.

I will say this year would have sucked, it would have been like upper 40's and raining this year for opening night.

Need to luck out with one of those nice like 65-70 degree sunny days. :)

luck out? we are talking about a miracle situation here in the yooper land, and only slightly less for the GB area, and thats not even taking the changes global warming have caused, imho it is near impossible to predict the weather around the great lakes for more then a week, often even a day or two in advance, it's volatile, harsh and very unpredictable, sorta like me :swear: , in fact I blame my disposition on the weather whenever I can get away with it :rotf:

be great to have the draft in GB, but it's to common for us to have lousy weather in April and May

I think that is why he said "luck out". It would just be nicer to have a beautiful Spring day. I'll take The Draft any way we can get it. In fact, if it's going to be &%$@, might as well just have snow showers and have some fun with that.

Average high for April is 54 and average high for May is 66.

Given when the draft is, around 60 for a high should be the expectation. So yeah, I would hope for something in the 65-70 range as most ideal, yet plausible.

It's also a silly place for an NFL team. And Canton, OH is a silly place to put the NFL Hall of Fame and host a preseason game every year, yet rich football football history finds a way.

Ahhhhhhh

wasn't so silly according to Paul Brown and George Muggsy Halas, they instigated profit sharing to keep the small town teams afloat, how can anyone call the 2nd oldest team in the league a silly place and why does the weather have to determine where the draft happens, it's not as though it's a outside affair, who cares if it snows

and when it was decided to use Cleveland for the HOF, not only where the Browns a power house organization, it's founder was instrumental in the shaping of the league and also the Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals, where else could lay claim to those kinds of credentials?
