Expectations may be a little too high if the expectation or goal is for this passing offense to rival the passing offenses of Aaron Rodgers at the height of his career. 4500 yards passing is a lot! In the history of the NFL it has happened 71 times where team passing yards has been 4500 or greater in a season (team passing accounts for sacks). There has been 77 player seasons in which a player has thrown for 4500+ yards. Only 33 quarterbacks in the history of the NFL have thrown for 4500+ yards in a season:

there just hopeful expectations, and I think, just as we saw and what I often say, rookie receivers are more ready to play then people seem to think, of course there will be some growing pains, but watching from the bench sure doesn't speed up the process, Doubs played very well except for the drops, and the only thing to hold Watson back was recovery from surgery, Matt Lafleur will play the rookies and Reed and Wicks are already impressing him, why not think it's possible to have a 4000 yard season for Love, I was never that hard on 4500 yrds anyway, If Love was not ready to do that, specially with this vastly improved receiver situation( including TE's and RB's) Rodgers would still be our QB.
I hear all this talk about rebuilding, and it's mostly because we switched QB's, now I can't predict Loves ceiling, but imo he's starting off with a higher floor then Rodgers did in 08, at least when it comes to defense and probably OL, RB and possibly TE, as I said this receiver group though young has tons of talent, when ya consider that Love is a young chemistry builder just like Rodgers was some years back several of these receivers could produce at or near a grand, I see no reason not to think that of Watson, Doubs, or possibly Toure , and Reed or Wicks seem like high floor rookies.
last year Rodgers had another 4000 yrd season, giving him 10 for his career, and as 004 showed with the rout vid, we often shut Rodgers down after the 2nd or 3rd quarters because we had 3 and 4 score leads, if Rodgers had been a stat hound he could have been over 5000 yrds a few seasons and easily over 4500 yarders more, heck in 2018 he had about 4400 and we both know how dis functional that year was.
again, 5500 yrds total offense considering we have two 1000 yrd RB's should be a low ball figure.
You have a very large discrepancy in your expectations.
4,500 passing yards would likely be a top 5 passing unit - one of the best in the league.
5,500 total offensive yards was 1 yard more than Arizona in 2022. Arizona was 22nd in total offensive yards. 1,500 rushing yards in 2022 would have been 30th in the league.

In my opinion, success or failure this year will have more to do with coaching than normal. We have alot of young guys still learning the game and need to do an exceptional job of coaching them up.
Yup. Take it a step further. With so many young guys, maybe the playbook will be simplified and the coaches preach more about doing a few things very well, rather than many things good enough. And then, WIN every snap at the few things that you do.
Some of football is about schemes and designs. But really, more of it is about winning your matchups by defeating your opponent. If our coaches and give proper emphasis on that second part more, I think we still win more of our games, even with the youth.

The aspect we have going for us is our schedule. The first 9 games are very winnable. We have a serious shot at going 7-2 or 6-3 in this stretch which could really inspire confidence in the team.
The next 4 game stretch is the death stretch with the Chargers, Lions on T-Day, Chiefs and at New York Giants.
The final 4 games are very much winnable games again.
There is a lot of reason to be optimistic this year. We could surprise a lot of people. I wouldn't be surprised by 11-6 or better, but as many have stated...I am also not expecting anything. I'm just going to enjoy the ride one week at a time.

Who really knows? Outside of the left side of the OL, our RB tandem and a few of our defensive starters most of the guys on this roster are grass green. I'm not expecting much. In Rodgers' first year starting in 2008 we were one season removed from the NFCC game and we went 6-10. For me 2023 will be a successful season if we see improvement every week and. Love shows like he belongs.

What I want to see out of the coaching staff is an ability to switch gears and go to plan b in the times when we are beating our heads against a brick wall. Too often when we get to the better teams we pull punches trying not to make mistakes but we are making it too easy for them. It should be easy to be a little unpredictable, since Love at this point has no known tendencies.

I think the Packers have a capable and talented roster that compares well to the rest of the division. I suppose, for the purpose of this thread, you could classify my ranking as "good".
Whether that translates to success on the field is the unknown at this point. There are so many other variables that factor into it that, at this point, it's nearly impossible to predict how the season will unfold.
- Coaching, it seems, is more at the forefront
- Player growth (and yes, regression)
- New player roles at key positions
- Leadership vacuum that will need to be filled
- An almost staggering transition to a youthful roster
The list goes on...
There's a lot to be optimistic about but also a lot that could go wrong. Personally, my expectation remains for the Packers to compete for the division title but not necessarily for a SB title. I'm guessing somewhere around a 9-8 record with a +/- 2 win variance in either direction.

I don't have any discrepancy's, I said these are low ball figures, I didn't use last years stats but rather conservative estimates, GPG don't you think I know how many yards Dillon and Jones ran for last year, I also think 4000 yards receiving is very doable, again we passed the ball for 3900 yards last year with mostly rookies, we ran for 2100 yards , basically 600 yards more then MY conservative estimate, a easy fluctuation from one year to the next.

great initial post and lots of great comments. I think a young team with a lot of talent. Could go lots of different ways. That said, yesterday before I left Vegas i tossed $50 on GB to win it all at 40-1 at the Wynn sportsbook. I don't expect it, but I wanted to bet enough to make it worth making the trip back to cash it if it does.

nice bet, great odds.
I placed 50 on the over win total of 7.5, so I am somewhat optimistic too. I predict something like 8-9, 9-8.
Defense is good enough to hopefully allow us to play alot of close games...so then the pressure goes to the rookie kicker. I hope he is good!

With an unproven offense (line, WRs, TE and QB) I think we have a "good" roster.

Like others have already said, it’s a good roster. With our longest tenured player and QB departed, there could be a leadership vacuum. There were moments last season when I felt that the head coach did not have control over this team. Is LaFleur willing and able to take control and give this team direction that it could need?

I currently have zero faith in LaCoach's ability to lead. The other day on the radio he was spewing the same stuff he was spewing last season.....stuff that basically goes in one ear and out the other. Something with his narrative has to change. This opening game versus Da Bears should be a statement game ......... a game that maps out a new direction, a new leadership. Maybe LaCoach will pull it off against the lowly Bears?

I don't need a statement game out of the gate. I want to see a squad that is ready to go though. The last couple of years with almost no starters playing pre-season our opening games looked like it was pre-season. Play a solid game start to finish and win.

As an adjunct to the passing game you're going to have a QB who will take off if he gets the chance. Favre's first 2 years he ran for 33 first downs. AR ran for 45 first downs in his first 2 starting years. I expect Love to run and move some chains putting the same types of stress on the D that helped make our HOF QBs so dangerous before they figured everything out.

Ringo, please don't take offense, but I can't relate at all to these opinions from you, for 1, Lafleur brought stability to a rudderless offense, 2,increased the run to pass balance so lost under McCarthy 3. dialed back the spread verticals that failed to work with the losses of talent at WR and TE.
people like you who think Rodgers has been running this show are so off track, of course Rodgers had opinions , but to think Lafleur just catered to those opinion is delusional thinking Buddy, that is so far out there.
the problems we saw on the field with OL blocking and receivers simply not performing are real, and Lafleur, well as they say Lafleur doesn't buy the groceries, for what Matts had to work with we could do much worse, and his first 3 seasons are proof of that

sure but his stats don't lie, Rodgers had 4000 passing yrds and 200 yrds rushing, and believe me, like you I've watched a lot of QB's over the years, specially Favre and Rodgers, and imo Love is more ready to kick butt then either of those two, and his receiver room while young have far more GOD given talent, seriously I think our passing performance this season is going to surprise many.

Love has not done anything to show he is more ready to kick butt than Rodgers was at this point in his career. Love has about 2 preseason games and 1 Eagles quarter of great production. He also has an okay 2nd half of football vs Detroit and pretty much everything else is garbage time fodder or clearly the game being too big for him.
What a flip from 6 months ago when you went on and on about how good Rodgers was in 2005 and 2006. And you call me a homer?
As for potential...yes. Love does have potential. His ball gets from point A to point B effortlessly and really quickly. He also plays within in the play and I really, really miss and like that.
