Packers Sign Sammy Watkins

I guess Will Fuller would be further removed, but playing on Shanahans O and then in Tennessee, gotta think Julio would pick up the playbook the quickest.

Ok. Totally forgot LaFleur and Sammy were with the Rams together in 2017.

All that being said. I don't want to spend a 1st on a WR so if Jones helps us not have to do that.

Don't think this signing effects the draft in any way. He might not even make the 53 (though probably about 90% he does).

Overall a decent signing. I hope there isn't too much guaranteed money and the majority of even the $4 million is incentives.

Now that Watkins is signed and will be the WR#1 starter, the remaining problem is the slot. Cobb is old and has lost whatever quickness he once had and can't stay healthy. Amari Rodgers never had good quickness or speed. So, is the strategy now to draft Burks and let him start in the slot on Day 1?

Or, should Lazard gain 10 pounds and play TE and Burks start at WR#2.

Then there was a 31-year gap until the next Packer donned the number, quarterback Rick Norton for one game in 1970.

Since 1970, 11 has been worn by three other quarterbacks (Alan Risher, Ty Detmer and Matt Hasselbeck), four punters Steve Broussard, David Beverly, Joe Prokop and B.J. Sander), one kicker (Eddie Garcia) and, more recently, two wideouts (Jarrett Boykin and Trevor Davis). Risher was a replacement player; Broussard is famous for having three punts blocked in one game, the first game of his four-game tenure in Green and Gold; Beverly wore the number for six years, longer than any other Packer, and was the most prolific punter in team history.

90 years on, Red Dunn remains the greatest Packer ever to wear 11.

The price reflects Sammys market and what the league thinks of him.

I am thrilled to get Sammy at that price point, and I think its a no brainer to bring him in at the price.

But the price indicated expectations should be tempered.

I hope he revamps his market like Campbell did in GB and its a win win for everyone!

The price doesn't foreshadow what he will do in 2022 either... I personally don't know what expectations everyone has, but I don't suspect many think he is going to be a Davante Adams #1. I think my own expectations are sufficiently tempered by expecting a high end #2.

That’s obviously on the high side of the range of reasonable/realistic expectations.

If we get 500 yrds from Watkins this year, we'll be fortunate, If Sammy stretches the defense which allows others to have success he'll have earned his 4 mil. thats all I want out of Watkins.

doesn't matter what Watson does, imo the Watson signing should have zero emphasis on this draft, we can't count on Watson for anything, he is a bonus player signed to help while the rookies mature, we should still do all we can to sign the most ready to play receiver we can from this class.

I’m gonna go ahead and say that it matters a great deal to this team what Sammy Watkins does this year.

Interestingly........John Jefferson made the Pro Bowl for the Packers averaging about 3-4 catches a game. If Sammy Watkins can at least give us JJ performances, that should be enough. But then again where is our Lofton, Sharpe, Brooks, Freeman, Driver, Nelson or Adams?
