I concur with the idea that the Packers are "posturing" with the Aaron-speak. But I also think they are serious/sincere about it. They could say all of the ambiguous love-notions that they want. But once they say, "We'll make you the highest paid QB..." that is sincere.

I'm still not against bringing back Aaron. But unless they can pull off a salary cap miracle to keep the core, they can't say that their goal is to win the SB. They just won't have the tools. First, Aaron shows how he lays eggs in January. Second, will the rest of the team help get past the divisional round that it hasn't done this year? Might be. But I doubt it.
tools, we had the tools this year with 4 all pro types on the side lines, seriously Scott did it seem like we had the tools in 2010? tools is highly over rated buddy, what wins SB's are teams that get hot, jell up and don't peak out early, thats what we did in 2010, thats what the Giants did in 2011, and it's what the Pats did a half doz times, in fact I'd say that it's less then common for sure that the best or most talented teams win it all each year, we could win next year with far less talent then we had this year.
One-and-done playoff format is BRUTAL for a game known for Any Given Sunday and injuries...

For a guaranteed SB win, I have only two solutions to it:

1) Somehow build a one-year team so superior, even the backups would sweep the floor with all other playoff teams on a bad day. For that you need one to two QBs and some other premium positions filled with cheap rookie -contract home runs, as well as great value UFA recruiting.
2) Stay winning. Get into the playoffs for a chance at the lottery. Do it enough times, and every now and then your number gets pulled outta the hat. Just because we haven't been lucky lately doesn't mean we'll stay unlucky in the future.

NE didn't win all those SBs by being an unbeatable juggernaut as described in 1). Prove me wrong.
I. is almost always turned out to be fools gold, we've seen teams spend the fortunes in UFA and the draft in hopes of winning it all, and the only thing they won is years of cap hell in recovery.

2. is the best route to take, stay competitive and hope that ya jell and get hot at the right time, get a few breaks and it all comes together as it did for us in 2010, that imo is what our FO is going to try and do.

Packers must think Love is Deshone Kizer
Love has very little to do with any of this, this is fan appeasement, 99% of fans want Rodgers back, the 10% that don't are the ones fed up with his antics or that he hasn't been able to carry this team in the PO's as he has during the regular season.

this team could suck next year with Love at the helm and it wouldn't affect this FO or the coaches, you and others here listen to talk show people to much
I've heard of giving 110%. Haven't heard about 109% of the fans. :)

Tell you what. I'll make a prediction right now. Next year the Patriots will take the division and will win at least 2 playoff games. But then maybe you can explain how they went 11-5 in 2008 with Brady out? The great Matt Cassel was QB that year. 10 of those games his defense held the other team to 21 points or less, He won 9 of those. The others were higher than 21 ppg and he won 2. But it was all Brady in NE.

Everyone in their heart of hearts knows it. If you can't do it in 2020 and 2021, what makes you think we have any realistic chance of doing it in 2022 with an older and more expensive QB?

Proceeding with Rodgers would give the illusion of "trying to win" which is what I have made fun of MN doing since 2018.
I think it would have less to do with trying to win and more to do with wanting more time before making a long-term decision on QB.
But that's what I don't understand. I don't see "long term QB decision" being the number one 2022 thing if we move on from Rodgers. We hold Love for 3 years. If Love sucks in 2022, you draft another one in 2023 and still hold Love for 2 years (I can't imagine his 5th year option is too expensive)

If it "clicks" for Love in year 4, you make a decision with the other QB on your roster at that time.

If it never clicks, you are in the same situation and hope the other guy you drafted shows upside.

We have gone ad nauseum on how its more about "team" than "QB" since the loss. Get the team right and everything else starts to fall into place.

Plenty of teams have seen success with average or below QBs. Philly, TEN, CLE, LAR (2020 and earlier), NO's, PIT, just to name a few the last few years

My actual point was that NE did not resort to "all-in" roster building to achieve the wins.

They certainly didn't tank to get high picks in order to rebuild.

Their winning strategy was to build around an established QB, who took a discount (but not an outrageous one), and just do everything better than the rest of the league.

"Doing things better"...

It's not a popular strategy, I know. We fans love to imagine a scenario in which our team wins by default if we choose my (or some influencer's) genius strategy and moves.

No crap. Fun fact, when Brady won last year want to guess where is defense ranked? Brady has never won a Super Bowl with a defense ranked lower than 8th in points. Even Eli Manning (17th and 25th)did that. But keep thinking it was all Brady.
Ok
Tell you what. I'll make a prediction right now. Next year the Patriots will take the division and will win at least 2 playoff games. But then maybe you can explain how they went 11-5 in 2008 with Brady out? The great Matt Cassel was QB that year. 10 of those games his defense held the other team to 21 points or less, He won 9 of those. The others were higher than 21 ppg and he won 2. But it was all Brady in NE.
Cool

mutual pos turing, it says if ya want him more then we do sharpen your freaking pencil cause he wont be going any where cheap, the front office is smart to make it look like it will be Rodgers decision should he leave, that will take the pressure down against any blow back should Love or the team decline in 2022, I think Andy Brandt is probably right again, both Rodgers and the team benefit if Rodgers is traded.
It's just mutual posturing. I liked it much better last week when the focus was squarely on Leroy Butler (and my list of All-Pros Dilweg, Lewellen, Howton, Gillingham and Sharpe). I'd rather discuss our DEFENSE and the new plans for the Special Teams, and why the front office should be cleaned out/emptied.
Feel free to start a thread about cleaning/emptying the FO. Could be an interesting discussion, but I won't be starting it because I'm not in favor of such a thing.
Much to the dismay of some prominent posters here I'm sure ........... I won't start such a thread either. :woohoo:

The problem if we bring back Rodgers for one more run is that if we make the playoffs, our QB will be Rodgers. And I don't have a solution for that yet, and I don't know if the team does either.

If Rodgers is such a choker in the playoffs why would another team give us all these #1 draft picks for a guy like that in the twilight of his career?

I'm only half kidding.

Because Denver (his most likely destination) proved you can overcome that when they did with a washed-up Peyton Manning.

Right now Denver's D is not as good as it was then. Will a team like that want to mortgage their future by giving up draft picks for a 38 year old QB today? We shall see if indeed Gute and company are ready to trade away Rodgers and go with Love.

Since when have NFL teams factored in every data point and always made correct long term decisions?

Tom Brady - older. Goes to Bucs. Wins a SB
Matt Stafford - Rams give up a load of picks. Goes to Rams. Wins a SB.

Yes. Teams will give up a lot for a shot at a ring. No question.

Maybe not as good as then. But very young and were 3rd in 3rd in points allowed last year.

And that is with poor offensive help and probably the toughest division in football for quality of offenses faced.

If I am Las Vegas, Denver, Philly, Pittsburgh....

I absolutely, positively do whatever I can to bring in Rodgers and Adams and hope for a legit 2 year run. The cap can be managed to make it happen and you are an instant threat for a SB if you do it.

I would give up 3 1st rounders plus another pick equivalent. No question. Your run is about FA at this point. Not drafting and your cap deferral can make it happen.

The Bengals defense is mainly comprised of FA's. The Rams team is mainly comprised of trades and FA's. There are more ways to build football teams now beyond Draft and Develop because of the way teams are managing the cap. Even the Packers did it and saw success.

I think Philly and Denver have the best shot because they have the most to offer us. They will simply be able to outbid anyone else.
