So then Derek would need to sign a new contract by Tuesday, and raiders and new team need to have a trade agreed to.
The more likely scenario is the trade would be agreed by Tuesday and then Carr would agree to delay the deadline in his current contract until after the new league year. Neither NO nor LV benefit by LV being the middle man in any new contract.
And goodness, Saints are like $60M over the cap right now. If they add Carr, he's gotta have like an absolute minimum cap hit this year. They gunna have to build like 50-70M cap hits on the back end. They have really driven that franchise into the ground. Everyone's contracts already kicked down the road, and with void years. Frankly not even sure how they can cut $60M from the cap with all the void years they added. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/cap/ Absolutely no clue how they could fit mid to upper tier QB contract into that mess.

Has Punxsutawney Aaron emerged from his slumber?
Of course not. But he's not going to hold the team hostage...

That’s exactly what I messaged to my dad this morning! Hahahaha

Even so, I bet nobody will hear a thing until the draft. Only continued speculation until then.

I think end of week possible, likely early next week.

It should be a solid week, minimum, before FA. March 15 I believe.

Sounds like the Jets' meeting with Carr went really well.

But Carr has also indicated that he is going to take his time deciding on his future destination.

Meaning he doesn’t have an offer coming in in the short term.

Meaning Carr was basically told he is gonna have to wait to see what happens with Rodgers.

Or literally meaning Carr is gonna continue his tour and listen to other offers and accept the best offer for him and his family.

i would def rather give love a shot on his cheap deal than pay Carr. Carr cant play in the cold and cant go long to Watson.

Carr is obviously the second most intriguing potentially available QB, so why would he rush? Jimmy G just spent another year hurt...Tannehill looks set to return to TN, Lamar gonna get the tag.

Carr is better than heineke, and many teams need a qb including Jets, and the entire NFC South, Colts (who will probably draft)

But point is that its not like Carrs market is going to erode as time goes on. Teams are gonna wait to see what Rodgers does, then look to see what he wants.

He instantly makes NOLA and Carolina a lot better, even tho he is mid.

Two. Carr is both younger and far cheaper.

Carr 2022

86.3 for 3522 yards, with 24/14 (15 games)

Rodgers 2022

91.1 for 3695 yards, with 26/12 (17 games)

Of course I'd prefer we trade Rodgers and start Love.

If Rodgers pops in on the McAfee show after he comes out of solitude and says, “I’m ready to play and I want to be traded” I still think the next month or so will be 100% about public posturing between he and the Packers. We aren’t going to know a thing until an official announcement of retirement/trade or move on Love has been made public.
I fully expect a LOT of public discourse to come, especially from Rodgers.

has 12 ever broke real news on Mcafee? Seems all i remember is everyone tuning in to hear something and then in so many words...he says nothing at all.

:dunno:

The statement I quoted was Carr over Love. How’d Rodgers get injected into the conversation? :?:

And to expand on my Love over Carr take: we know what we get in Carr. A talented, albeit mistake prone, player who has reached his ceiling…and it’s not all that high. He’ll win you some games, sure, but he won’t get you to where you want to go. He’s an average play somebody you’ll be looking to replace two years into his contract.

Love may be the same. Love could also be the next great QB in the Packer succession. We simply don’t know. We’ve seen flashes of both although the more recent flashes have been the latter player. If it’s me, I’d just as soon spend two years to find out exactly what Love is capable of - and do so at a reasonably affordable rate - than waste time on a guy I know isn’t the player I need.
