He's getting at least $8M a year from the Cubs. Brewers offered $5.5M (still would have been highest paid). So he resets the market and probably gets a better chance at winning a WS. Both things he wanted to do.

Wow. Didn't see that coming.

Can't say I blame him. Reset the manager pay chart by a mile. Plus goes to an organization that isn't afraid to spend some money. I'd let the haters hate, too.

Really seems like its time for Attanasio to pass the torch, and the team, to someone else.

Yep. His comments yesterday about Counsel losing the Brewer community were out of touch. The fan base sees why Counsel opted to leave.

The Brewers ownership is unable to compete. They're basically content with losing.

I wouldn't say that. They've been consistently competitive for a good while now. But they still need to take the next step to get over the hump. Which they haven't done.

Pair that with some rough years of finding and developing talent.

Silly to say otherwise. Frankly remarkable we’ve been competitive as we have been, for so long, against teams with 2-3x the spending power.

Problem is, even spending another $50M a year is no guarantee of doing better. Here's every teams payroll in 2023. You pretty much have to be spending $200M a year to be considered a legit contender every year. Doesn't mean you can't, but you won't be a favorite.
N.Y. Mets, $353,546,854
N.Y. Yankees, $276,999,872
San Diego, $248,995,932
Philadelphia, $243,009,439
L.A. Dodgers, $222,717,834
L.A. Angels, $212,228,096
Toronto, $ 209,938,983
Atlanta, $203,077,500
Texas, $195,869,490
Houston, $192,667,233
San Francisco, $187,932,500
Chicago Cubs, $184,219,250
Boston, $181,207,484
Chicago White Sox, $181,158,666
St. Louis, $175,637,308
Colorado, $171,108,778
Minnesota, $153,588,740

Dodgers sign both Yamamoto and Ohtani for over $1B combined total contract commitment. Jesus.

And still MLB leadership sees no problem with fielding competitive teams across the league.

Hope MLB is content with having roughly a half dozen or so faithful fan bases across the country. With attendance across the league trending down, it's only gonna get worse.

It's becoming exceedingly difficult to get excited about MLB anymore. Miss Becks Dark at old Comisky. And miss krauted brats with hot stadium sauce at old County Stadium.

Thev1994 strike took years to recover from, even with the Sosa vs McGuire HR race. The league was thriving, maybe the kost ever, 6 or so years ago. The league got greedy. The NFL is so popular because of parity, fueled by the salary cap and draft order. If only 5 or 6 teams have a shot to make the WS any given year, the other 22 teams and their fan bases will wither and the league will eventually be irrelevant.
