well I just think the over all exceeds the short comings with Lafleur, he did a great job melding with Rodgers, which I'am sure had plenty of not so pleasant moments, for the most part does good game plans, and seems like a players coach, he was brought in during a difficult transition, long time establish GM change, same with HC and DC, and face of the franchise QB, not to keen on his hire, he also inherited coaches not of his choosing, so he had to deal with that too, admittedly he floundered with some of that.RingoCStarrQB wrote: ↑24 Jan 2024 19:30Some think the amazing turnaround starting with the Thanksgiving Day win over Detroit merits keeping LaCoach and his staff in 2024. Joe Barry is under contract still. And there no way the Packers signed him to an initial 4 year contract which I agree with. So that can only mean… The Packers extended him after the 2022 season.
length of contract, or actually any factual info about that is deemed a national secret, rumors, what I did find is that joe makes 4 mil annual and he's signed through 2024, at least, or so it would seem, again 4 mil is chump change to move on.
strange though to have a 2 yr contract, and probably why we ended up with Barry in the first place, most prospective cords are offered 3 year deals, stranger even would be extending one who hadn't actually made improvements, this seems like just more bad decision making by our FO.
While the job Lafleur has done on offense is commendable, it doesn't over shadow his neglect with coaching decisions, he kept ST's cord to long, and now it appears he extended Barry when he should have cut him lose after his first 2 years.
getting easier to side with Ringo, Lafleur seems incompetent as a HC, could be said that both he and Joe Barry where better at there previous positions then the positions they presently hold
Young, new HC = limited experience or relationships with prospective assistants, smaller circle of candidates, it's obvious why teams look for older seasoned vet coaches, they have a wider circle of coaches they know well to bring along to help them, in that sense Lafleur had limitations, and possibly why he picked a few cords who didn't pan out, so it becomes not what you know, but who you know, who you can attract, who is available, who you can lure in to take that job, and for the money your owner is willing pay.
I was mildly surprised when he fired Pettine, upset when he kept Barry this last season, his loyalty to assistants while commendable has also lead to losses, to me thats been my biggest angst with Lafleur, and I'am knocking it up to OJT for a young HC, Lafleur is to sharp not to learn from his mistakes, imo he'll be a HC here or elsewhere for years to come.
