For once, interesting tidbit from PFT: WR Allen Lazard hasn't signed his restricted free agent tender. No other team can try to make an offer to him at this point. But he could theoretically hold out until the end of the season without any penalties or fines, of course wouldn't get paid anything either.

The tender is for $3.986 million for the season. He probably wants an extension instead.

After picking a WR, I think we're out of desperation zone. He'll eventually just sign it.

I would assume this is just a clerical thing... like not going out of my way to get that signed type of deal. I can't possibly imagine a scenario where Lazard would think holding out would be the right move for him.

I'm sure the Packers have much more hope for him, hence the draft slot. As much as I'd like to be, I'm not actually involved in the decision making!

Agree completely. They didn't contemplate using a 2nd-round pick and actually use a 3rd-round pick on a Tyler Ervin replacement/upgrade... although I also agree Rodgers can do those things and seemingly be a major upgrade.

I'm usually trying to see the upside in picks, but Amari is a rare case of me going "I'm just not seeing it, boss". At least not in the 3rd round.

I do hope he comes back all lightning and proves me wrong.

one other thing I always neglect mentioning about Cobb not playing more sooner because it tends to boil down my argument is that slot is called the Y position because the receiver often decides the direction of his route, he has to be able to read leverage on the DB covering him, plus the slot receiver has to learn all the nuance of a blocker.

Amari at times looked confused, but he did have a couple very good slot receptions went for 1st dn yardage, I'am hoping he has a 2nd year leap.

He wasn’t explosive more because he was hesitant than because he doesn’t have any juice, as we can see from Clemson tape. The NFL game needs to slow down for him. If that clicks, we’ll get a jump and see what he can do. If it doesn’t, he busts right off the team by year three

Getting the feeling the stars just aren't aligned when it comes to us and WRs. Gutey's been in so many conversations, but he will not grossly overpay. Which I like in a GM, but hasn't gotten us a WR.

I don't think our rookie Watson is chopped liver either.

I can appreciate that. Even so, to put that kind of stock into Rodgers must indicate that Guty really thinks he SHOULD make our offense that much more dynamic (hard to defend). They are saying that Rodgers is not just another body in that spot, but a guy who will move the chains and even break off big plays every now and then.

BTW, I wouldn't have put that much stock into Rodgers for that purpose. But I do believe the guy will show up in 2023, if only he will be able to hold onto the ball!

I just want to say that I now am in the position of actively liking our WR room.

• I think Watkins is the perfect reclamation project and that his early production will give the rookies time to develop from role players to featured players.

• I think Christian Watson has elite traits, strength, and mentality to become a true #1 in this league, but if he falls short of that goal, he has a high floor as a deep threat and gadget/jet sweep/STs player

• I think Doubs in the 4th is someone who can grow into filling MVS' role but has better YAC than he does to be a more multi-faceted WR than MVS ever really actualized for us.

• Lazard can play inside or outside and can block or be a trusted intermediate target (even though his hands aren't as reliable as I'd like for that role).

• Cobb is Aaron Rodgers' trusted 3rd down option who still has elite feel for the game, even if his athleticism has been somewhat sapped by injuries

• Amari Rodgers will either click and understand the game, making him Cobb's logical heir apparent and a great target for manufactured touches, or he will not click and he will be a valuable blocking slot and special teamer who is a candidate to be replaced next year

• Samari Toure, Malik Taylor, and Juwann Winfree are athletic, capable depth pieces who can/do contribute on ST and can develop on a PS while they wait their turn or earn a spot duty role early on

I genuinely think this group gives us really nice options.

I see it sort of like this:

Year 1:
Sammy Watkins takes Davante Adams' role: a downgrade
Watson takes MVS' role: an upgrade
Lazard maintains his role or expands it: neutral
Cobb and Rodgers share a role and Rodgers has a second year jump: a slight upgrade
Doubs gives us depth at the MVS role that we didn't have last year: an upgrade

Year 2:
Christian Watson is now the #1, Davante Adams
Doubs steps into a more versatile MVS role
Amari fills the fulltime small slot role
Toure develops into useful depth
Lazard probably has moved on and we need to add an additional big slot

Now we're young, fast, versatile, physical... obviously, that's assuming a lot of hits. But I genuinely like these players. No J'Mon Moores. No sub-par athletes. No unmotivated headcases. Just hard-working, traitsy, versatile pass catchers.
