Yeah I definitely think the instincts are there. I attribute most of Quay's issues to lack of football experience. He played considerably better when he didn't have as many responsibilities and could just go with his single assignment.
That could improve. But I am also prepared it just never clicks.
Herman graded Quay poorly. PFF graded him poorly at 51.9. Not sure what else needs to be argued here.
There’s tons of room for improvement. He’s lengthy and athletic and good in coverage which you don’t see much from LBs in general.
I’ll say one thing that is a definite negative knock on him is the lack of instincts. Hes got to get better at diagnosing the play which will come in time but for a 1st round LB you typically see more in that department than what we got in Quay. Ultimately this season I didn’t see much difference between him and Oren Burks. Just an athletic freak so far.
ehhhhh, I think as a rookie he's better then some give him credit for.
I know what Packers wire said Lupe, which basically ehco's your comment,, but for 9 games Walkers was very good, the comments concerning lack of instincts simply don't add up, his fails to not fill a gap had more to do with NO ONE slowing down blockers then Quay lacking instincts to avoid them, heres what Bleacher report had to say.
The 3-6 Green Bay Packers are not playing well, and their 27th-ranked scoring offense has been particularly problematic. In hindsight, Green Bay probably should have made a better effort to find quarterback Aaron Rodgers a reliable pass-catcher in the draft.
That's not Quay Walker's fault, however, and the 22nd overall pick out of Georgia has done his job as well as could be expected. He has started eight of nine games and been on the field for 74 percent of the defensive snaps while playing well against both the run and the pass.
Walker has logged 62 tackles, 40 solo stops, two tackles for loss, two passes defended and two forced fumbles. He's allowed an opposing passer rating of only 72.5 while being credited with a mere three missed tackles (a 4.6 percent miss rate).
While Green Bay has struggled against the run (4.8 yards per carry allowed), Walker has been one of the few consistent defenders on the field each week. The season isn't going as expected for the Packers, but Walker has been everything Green Bay could hope for in an off-ball linebacker.

agree, some, he was asked to play MLB, a position he probably does lack experience at, but he still had 40 solo tackles in 9 games with over 60 total, no way he's going to bust out, why is it people question my opinion that ILB is such a easy college to pro transition, Walker was better then Hawk, Barnett, and every other rookie lber I've seen in 40 years.

I honestly don’t think I ever honed in my eye on Oren burks and didn’t see him do something incredibly stupid, despite his obvious physical traits. Preseason or in season, when I was watching, he was doing something dumb.

At linebacker that is, he wasn’t a bad STer
no kidding, it's a insult to the naked eye to mention Burks lber skills in the same sentence as Quay Walker, someone should book Lupe with a optometrist appointment
obviously there have been better ILB's drafted the last 40 years or so, just not by the GBPers

You’ve spent like 3 hours collectively arguing this now.
It takes 5 minutes to read the article, I might suggest spending 10 and reading it twice.
You guys are rough on an old many that puffs the whacky tobaccy and fires off takes from the hip. Yal will miss him when he moves on.
Rock on Yoop.
I fully intend to, why would I move on
and what are you babbling on about, least I don't come strolling in here 2 sheits to the wind dragging along PFF and Hermies grades to make points because without them I don't know what the hell to think about what I just watched during the game I actually have a mind of my own to formulate a opinion about the ability of the Walkers on our team.
the real laugher will come when Rodgers goes to another team next year and goes to the play offs as we try and figure who our next QB will be, seriously, obviously, I hope thats not the case, but it stands just as much a chance to be right as LOve does being our savior at QB
